The Latvian National Sports Council (LNSP) intends to request €1.48 million from the government’s contingency fund to cover prize money for athletes who have achieved outstanding results. The request comes as a measure to reward top performers in various sports.

Edgars Pukinsks, Deputy State Secretary for Sports and Youth Affairs at the Ministry of Education and Science, told Latvian Radio that the figure might not be final. He acknowledged that the required funding could rise further, though he did not provide details on the potential increase.

The move highlights the ongoing commitment to supporting athletes financially, especially as Latvian sportsmen and women continue to earn medals at international events. The specific allocation of the prize money and eligibility criteria have yet to be disclosed.
