Spotify Finally Lets You Disable Music Videos
Spotify users can now turn off automatic music video playback via a new settings toggle.
Listeners annoyed by Spotify's forced music video playback can finally disable them. The app has long allowed some setting adjustments but until now lacked a way to completely turn off all videos. Now, both mobile and desktop versions include a toggle to do so.
On mobile, tap the profile icon in the top-left, then Settings and Privacy, followed by Content and Display. Under Video and Canvas, there are three toggles: music videos, Canvas (animated album art), and other videos (including video podcasts). Turning these off reduces data usage.
On desktop, click the profile icon in the top-right, then Settings, scroll to Video and Canvas. After testing, the author confirms music video icons disappear from playlists, albums, and artist pages. The only remnant is a "Switch to video" button in the Now Playing sidebar, but clicking it prompts you to re-enable videos.
The author notes that while videos are sometimes desired, they shouldn't play automatically every time. Hopefully Spotify will better separate audio and video content in the future.
