Spotify to label AI-generated artist profiles starting in September
Spotify will begin tagging AI-generated artist profiles with an 'AI Persona' badge and exclude them from recommendations, with the labels rolling out next month.

Spotify announced it will start marking artist profiles that represent AI-generated identities with an "AI Persona" badge beginning in mid-September, distinguishing them from profiles belonging to real people.
While artists will be able to self-identify as AI Personas, Spotify said it won't rely solely on self-disclosure. The company will also review artist profiles itself, looking for cases where an artist's name and images appear to be photorealistic AI-generated identities. Reviews will start with profiles that already have significant listener numbers, so the most popular artists are covered first.
The badge will appear on the artist's profile banner and About section, in search results, and on track listings within playlists. By default, Spotify will exclude AI Personas from its editorial and algorithmic recommendations, as well as from users' personalized recommendations — unless a user has chosen to follow that artist.
Part of a broader AI policy
The change extends Spotify's AI policy first introduced in September 2025, which already bans unauthorized AI voice clones and deepfakes from the platform and labels AI-generated music using industry techniques.
Spotify clarified that the new badge judges an artist's public identity rather than how the music itself was produced — details about music production will remain available through separate features. Artists will also be able to appeal a label they believe was applied incorrectly.
In the coming months, Spotify plans to introduce a tool letting users report artist profiles they suspect are AI Personas that haven't yet been labeled. Artists can begin self-disclosing starting August 11, while the visible badges themselves will start appearing on profiles next month.
