Two Ukrainians injured in explosion at German railway station

An explosion occurred on Tuesday morning, September 2, at the central railway station in Augsburg, Bavaria, Germany. Local media reported that two Ukrainian citizens were among those injured.

The outlet "Yevropeiska Pravda" reported the incident, citing a statement from the North Swabia police posted on social media platform X. The blast occurred in a corridor of the station building near a bank branch. Two people suffered minor injuries, and windows at the station were also damaged.

The local newspaper "Presse Augsburg" specified that the injured were a 17-year-old girl and an 18-year-old young man, both Ukrainian citizens.

Station temporarily closed

Law enforcement initially cordoned off the station building and the first platform, while other platforms continued operating for a time. Passengers were advised to use the station's south and north entrances instead.

Police later announced the closure of the entire station building after a suspicious object was discovered there. Train traffic was halted. Specialists from the Bavarian State Criminal Police Office were called to the scene to investigate. According to police, it remains unclear what the object was and exactly how the explosion occurred.

Possible link to other incidents

On the night of September 2, a suspicious incident also occurred at a substation near Cologne, which police suspect may involve malicious intent and a possible connection to another incident in Brandenburg, where an attempt was made to damage the largest power plant there. Investigators are also checking a possible link between these cases and the Augsburg incident.

Ukraine's ambassador to Germany, Oleksii Makeiev, said Kyiv is already actively cooperating with Berlin to help Germany counter Russian sabotage.
