Estonian Half Marathon Championship, Cancelled Over Bomb Threat, Rescheduled to October 3 in Tartu
Estonia's national half marathon championship, called off in summer due to a bomb threat, will now take place on October 3 as part of the Tartu city marathon.
The Estonian Athletics Association announced on Wednesday, September 2, that this year's national half marathon championship will be held as part of the Tartu city marathon. The race is set to start at 11:00 on October 3.
The championship had originally been scheduled to take place in Narva on June 6, but shortly before the start, police received information about a possible explosive threat. A small suspicious bag had been found on a park bench and was subsequently checked by a bomb disposal team.
The Rescue Board later reported that there was no danger — the bag contained only personal belongings. Shortly before noon, the bomb disposal specialists working at the scene destroyed the bag.
Previous championship
The last time the national championship over this distance was held in Tartu was in 2024, when Leonid Latsepov and Liis-Grete Hussar became national champions.
