Fire at pyrotechnics warehouse in Russia's Yaroslavl region kills 14, damages nine apartment blocks
A fire at a pyrotechnics warehouse in the village of Kubrinsk, Yaroslavl region, killed 14 people and damaged nine nearby apartment buildings.
A large fire broke out on the afternoon of September 28 at a pyrotechnics warehouse in the village of Kubrinsk, in Russia's Yaroslavl region. According to Russian broadcaster REN TV, citing the press office of Yaroslavl Governor Mikhail Yevrayev, 14 people were killed in the blaze.
Governor Yevrayev said on Telegram that regional authorities were preparing to declare a state of emergency. As of the latest reports, 100 firefighters and 40 emergency vehicles remained at the scene.
According to Russian state news agency TASS, the fire damaged nine nearby apartment buildings, with most of the damage limited to broken windows.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined. Russia's Investigative Committee has opened a criminal probe into a possible violation of industrial safety regulations, under Part 3 of Article 217 of the Russian Criminal Code.
