Keir Starmer, the UK Prime Minister and Labour Party leader, has announced his resignation from both positions, as widely anticipated. His most probable successor is Andy Burnham, the former Manchester mayor and Labour politician. According to the Politico Europe podcast, this change could also affect the German chancellor's European policy.

In Germany, Friedrich Merz and Bärbel Bas presented the long-awaited report of the pension commission today. Green Party deputy parliamentary group leader Andreas Audretsch warned in an interview that the pension level could drop significantly from 2031 and called for reliable stabilization.

For the first time, the Bundeswehr's Lithuania brigade conducted a real-life exercise, reported by Rixa Fürsen. However, the training is overshadowed by a personnel debate: early internal projections show that the voluntary principle, intended to recruit 5,000 soldiers by 2027, will not be sufficient.
