Romanian Political Crisis Deepens

Romania’s parliament has rejected the candidacy of center-right politician Adrian Veștea for prime minister. He failed to secure the 233 votes needed to form a new government, intensifying the country’s political crisis.

Hungary’s PM Announces Reforms

Hungary’s Prime Minister Péter Magyar, who recently took office, delivered a nearly hour-long speech accusing the previous government of creating a “mafia” that took over the country. He announced plans to draft a new constitution and remove several appointees of former Prime Minister Viktor Orbán.

Orbán-Appointed President Vows Resistance

Meanwhile, Hungary’s President Tamás Sulyok, appointed by Orbán, vowed to resist Magyar’s attempts to remove him. Magyar had earlier criticized Sulyok for turning a blind eye to abuses during Orbán’s tenure.

Iran-US Talks Show Progress

Iran-US peace talks, mediated by third parties, have shown “encouraging progress.” The two countries have agreed to establish a “communication line” to ensure safe passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz.
