Ukraine and Italy discuss joint support for building an underground school
Ukrainian parliament speaker Ruslan Stefanchuk discussed with his Italian counterpart Lorenzo Fontana the possibility of jointly supporting construction of an underground school in a frontline region of Ukraine, alongside the security situation and peace process.
Verkhovna Rada Chairman Ruslan Stefanchuk said he discussed Ukraine's security situation with the Speaker of the Italian Chamber of Deputies, Lorenzo Fontana, including a possible joint effort to support building an underground school in one of Ukraine's frontline regions.
Stefanchuk shared the update in a post on social network X.
Talks on protecting children
The two officials discussed the consequences of Russian strikes on Ukrainian cities, exchanged views on the next stages of the peace process, and aligned their countries' positions on the matter.
Stefanchuk said a separate part of the conversation focused on protecting Ukrainian children. He was quoted as saying the sides discussed the possibility of jointly patronizing the construction of an underground school in one of Ukraine's frontline regions, as part of what is known as the Shelter Coalition.
Sanctions and cooperation
Stefanchuk also stressed the need for continued sanctions pressure on Russia and for deepening inter-parliamentary cooperation between Ukraine and Italy.
