Stefanishyna removed as Ukraine's ambassador to US after resigning

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Monday officially dismissed Olha Stefanishyna from the position of Ukraine's ambassador to the United States. In a Facebook post, Stefanishyna announced that she had decided to leave the post herself for personal reasons and published her resignation.

She described serving as ambassador in Washington as a great honor. In her view, during her tenure Ukraine managed to increase U.S. arms deliveries and preserve support at a time when the political situation in the U.S. capital had turned less favorable for Ukraine.

Stefanishyna had held the ambassadorial post for about a year. Before that, she served as deputy prime minister and justice minister.

Ukrainian media report that the country's anti-corruption agency is conducting an investigation into Stefanishyna, though no official charges have been brought against her yet.

Zelensky made a series of controversial government changes in July. So far, no successor for the ambassador post in the United States has been announced.
