The Carolina Hurricanes took advantage of their Stanley Cup victory celebration to announce a contract extension with veteran forward Nicolas Deslauriers. The one-year deal is worth a total of $1.75 million, with an annual salary of $875,000.

Deslauriers, 35, began the season with the Philadelphia Flyers but was traded to Carolina in early March. In seven regular-season games with the Hurricanes, he recorded one point. He appeared in only one playoff game, during the first round against the Ottawa Senators.

Over his NHL career, Deslauriers has played 708 games, accumulating 106 points and 799 penalty minutes. He does not automatically meet the criteria to have his name engraved on the Stanley Cup, but teams have the option to petition for exceptions.

The extension was announced as the team continued to celebrate winning the Stanley Cup. Deslauriers was set to become an unrestricted free agent in early July but chose to remain in Carolina.
