Storvreta claws back a draw to seal Champions Cup semifinal spot
Sweden's Storvreta IBK erased a two-goal deficit late in their floorball Champions Cup quarterfinal to draw 3:3 away to Finland's SPV, a result that combined with their first-leg win sends them into the semifinals.
Swedish floorball club Storvreta IBK has booked a place in the Champions Cup semifinals after a dramatic finish to their quarterfinal tie against Finland's SPV. Decided over two legs, the tie saw Storvreta claw back a two-goal deficit in the closing minutes of the second match to secure a 3:3 draw, which combined with their first-leg win was enough to advance.
Format and first-leg result
Champions Cup quarterfinals are decided on aggregate across two matches, with a regulation-time win worth three points and a draw worth one point for each side. In the first leg, played in the Finnish city of Seinäjoki, Storvreta claimed a narrow 2:1 win, scoring the decisive goal less than five minutes before the final whistle. That meant SPV needed a regulation-time win in the second leg to force the tie into overtime or a penalty shootout.
How the second leg unfolded
The Finnish side started strongly, taking the lead in the first period on a power-play goal from Riku Hakanen. SPV doubled their advantage in the second period through a combination finished by Aaro Tamiranta after a setup from Janne Autio, though Storvreta hit back quickly with a power-play strike from Sakari Ulrikson.
Early in the third period, Janne Autio scored again to restore SPV's two-goal cushion. But the Finnish side could not hold on, as Storvreta mounted a strong late push. Filip Eriksson first pulled a goal back, and in the closing minutes, with an extra attacker on for the goalkeeper, Hampus Nydenfeldt struck to level the score at 3:3.
SPV also pulled their goalkeeper for an extra skater in the final moments but could not find the fourth goal that would have forced overtime. As a result, Storvreta IBK have secured their spot in the 2026/27 Champions Cup semifinals.
