Streaming Platforms Required to Invest in Latvian Content
The Latvian government approved a proposal obliging streaming platforms to financially support local audiovisual content, with funds directed to National Film Centre competitions.

At a meeting on July 7, the Latvian government endorsed a proposal from the Ministry of Culture, the National Film Centre (NKC), and the film industry, which mandates streaming platforms to invest in Latvian audiovisual content.
Starting now, audiovisual service providers – including streamers of films, series, cartoons, and shows – will be required to allocate funds for the development of local content. These funds will be channeled into NKC competitions that support the creation of high-quality Latvian films, series, and television programs.
The proposal was developed in cooperation with the media sector and coordinated with relevant partners. The Ministry of Culture stated that this step will help strengthen Latvia's audiovisual industry and provide additional financing for local projects.
Specific investment amounts or detailed conditions have yet to be announced, but the initiative has already received praise from the industry for its potential to increase the availability of Latvian content.
