Deadline Approaching

Australian tech founders have only 48 hours to submit their applications for the Stripe x Startup Battlefield, a first-of-its-kind partnership between TechCrunch and Stripe. The application window closes on Monday, July 20, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. AEST and will not be extended. Eight startups will be selected to pitch live on August 19 at Stripe Tour Sydney in front of investors, global press, and the Australian tech community.

Prizes and Opportunities

The grand prize includes automatic entry into the Startup Battlefield 200 at TechCrunch Disrupt in San Francisco (October 13–15, 2026) plus $15,000 in Stripe fee credits. Second place receives $5,000 in credits, and third place receives $2,000. Every applicant—whether selected to pitch or not—will be invited and registered to attend Stripe Tour Sydney.

What Judges Are Looking For

TechCrunch is not seeking the most polished companies but the most promising ones. The key question: Does this change something genuinely, not incrementally? Having some press coverage, no customers yet (as long as there's a working MVP), or having applied before and been rejected will not disqualify applicants. Past rejections are not seen as indicators of future potential.

How to Build a Strong Application

The most critical element is a video showing the actual MVP working in real time—no mockups or static pitch decks. Honesty about competitors and a clear explanation of why the startup wins is valued more than any total addressable market slide. The founding story—what the founder saw, why now, why they are the right person—is a meaningful part of evaluation. A clear, honest application with a real product outperforms a polished one that obscures the company. The competition is free to enter and takes no equity.
