Štrombahs advances to qualifying final of Challenger tournament in Augsburg
Latvian tennis player Štrombahs defeated Germany's Dominik Matić in the first qualifying round and reached the final qualifying round of the Augsburg Challenger 50 tournament.

Latvian tennis player Štrombahs, currently ranked 449th in the ATP standings, has made a successful start in the qualifying rounds of the Augsburg Challenger 50 tournament. Seeded fifth in the qualifying draw, he faced German player Dominik Matić in the first round of qualifying.
Matić, who is currently unranked in the ATP, entered the tournament on a wild card granted by the organizers. Despite this, Štrombahs came out on top, winning in two sets, 6-4, 7-6, taking the second-set tiebreak 7-4.
Significance for qualification
The victory sends the Latvian player through to the final round of qualifying, where he will compete for a spot in the tournament's main draw. Reaching the qualifying final alone guarantees Štrombahs one ATP ranking point, which could give his overall standing a slight boost.
The Augsburg Challenger 50 tournament, part of the ATP Challenger Tour, is being played on clay courts. This surface typically demands a different approach from players than hard or grass courts, as the ball bounces more slowly and rallies tend to run longer.
Information on Štrombahs' result was distributed by the LETA news agency.
