Su-24M Crash in Khmelnytskyi Region: DNA Confirmed, Investigation Ongoing
Ukraine's State Bureau of Investigation continues probing the June 16 Su-24M crash that killed two servicemen. DNA testing has been completed, dozens of witnesses interrogated, and an independent aviation technical examination is being prepared.

The State Bureau of Investigation (DBR) of Ukraine is continuing to establish all circumstances of the tragic crash of a Su-24M military aircraft in the Khmelnytskyi region on June 16, 2026, which claimed the lives of two servicemen. Investigators have determined that the aircraft was on its second flight of the day. Prior to both takeoffs, technical personnel reported no issues with the aircraft's condition, and all service documentation was completed in accordance with established requirements.
It has been confirmed that the pilots were carrying out a combat mission, the details of which have been shared with the investigation but are not disclosed in the interests of national security. The DBR refutes information circulated online suggesting that one of the pilots ejected, stating that this is not true.
As part of the investigation, dozens of interrogations have been conducted, including interviews with family members of the deceased, command staff, and fellow service members. According to witnesses, both servicemen underwent the necessary medical check-up before the flight, had no health complaints, and were in good spirits. They are described as professional military personnel who were respected among colleagues, and no family issues that could be relevant to the investigation have been identified.
According to the results of molecular genetic testing, the DNA of the deceased has been identified, confirming their identities. The DBR once again expresses its sincere condolences to their families.
A separate service investigation is being conducted by the command of the Ukrainian Air Force. Upon its completion, an independent aviation technical examination will be ordered. The pre-trial investigation is being carried out under Part 2 of Article 416 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, which covers violation of flight rules or preparation for them resulting in a crash or other serious consequences.
