Sudalinna Theatre to bring four projects to Narva this year
A cooperation agreement between the city of Narva and Tallinn's Sudalinna Theatre was signed at Narva Town Hall, under which the theatre will present four projects in the city by year's end. The deal was signed as part of the opening events for the "Narva – Autumn Capital of Estonia 2026" programme.
On September 20, a cooperation agreement was signed at Narva Town Hall between the Narva city government and Tallinn's Sudalinna Theatre. The signing took place as part of opening events for the "Narva – Autumn Capital of Estonia 2026" programme, the Narva mayor's press office reported.
By the end of the year, the theatre will bring four projects to the city. Already on September 23, the Rugodiv House of Culture will host an event introducing the theatre's history and featuring actors well known to the public.
What the autumn programme includes
The autumn lineup also includes an interactive educational programme called "Visiting the Poks," based on Edgar Valter's books, a production of "Don Quixote" starring Aleksandr Ivashkevich in the lead role, and a staged reading of Albert Ramsdell Gurney's play "Love Letters" performed by Sudalinna Theatre actors Anna Sergeeva and Aleksandr Kuchmezov. The reading will take place on November 22 in the small hall of the Rugodiv House of Culture as part of the "Short Meetings in Narva" series.
Commenting on the agreement, Narva mayor Jaan Toots said it is important to preserve what already works well in the city's cultural life while also seeking new ideas and partnership opportunities, so as to offer residents a more varied and interesting cultural programme.
Sudalinna Theatre board member Anne-Lii Päiv named expanding the event programme and improving access to information about the theatre's shows in Narva as key areas of cooperation. She noted that the theatre visits Narva regularly, but residents often say they either didn't know about a performance or found out too late. City-provided information support is therefore important so news of upcoming productions reaches more viewers in time. The theatre also plans to develop an educational track together with the city, aiming to offer new master classes next year and cooperation opportunities for children's and youth theatre groups in Ida-Viru County.
