Super Giants thrash dismal Spirit at Lord's

Manchester Super Giants delivered a dominant performance at Lord's, defeating London Spirit by seven wickets in The Hundred women's competition. The visitors reached the target of 81 in only 59 balls, losing three wickets in the process.

Spirit, batting first after being put in, collapsed to 80 all out in 91 balls, with Ryana MacDonald-Gay taking 4-17. Openers Grace Harris and Amy Jones were dismissed for four and a golden duck respectively. MacDonald-Gay also removed Marie Kelly and top-scorer Marizanne Kapp (17). Deandra Dottin was bowled by Sophie Ecclestone for four.

Captain Charlie Dean was one of only four batters to reach double figures, scoring 14 before being run out. Katie George was caught behind for eight off MacDonald-Gay as the innings ended with nine balls unused.

Super Giants, playing their first match under their new name after five years as Manchester Originals, started steadily. Smriti Mandhana and Meg Lanning put on 33 for the first wicket before Mandhana was lbw to Kapp for 17. Kapp then bowled Grace Scrivens but Paige Scholfield survived the hat-trick ball.

Lanning was caught off Hannah Rainey for 21, but Richa Ghosh (15 not out off five) and Scholfield (22 off 15) finished the chase quickly, with Scholfield hitting a four and a six off consecutive deliveries to seal the win.
