Latvian public broadcaster LSM has announced significant changes for the upcoming “Supernova” song contest. For the first time, a superfinal round will be held, where the winner will be chosen exclusively by the audience, and the final will take place at a new location.

Song submissions will open on August 1 and close on October 1. A jury will select the participants, whose names will be revealed in November. The final is scheduled for February 6 and will be held for the first time at the Xiaomi Arena.

The contest is open to soloists, duets, and groups of up to six members. Performers must be at least 18 years old by April 15 of the following year. Submitted songs must not have been published or performed before September 1, 2026. Foreigners may participate as co-authors, but their share of copyright cannot exceed 49%. Songs created wholly or partially using artificial intelligence are prohibited.

The jury will evaluate originality, arrangement, message, market trends, vocal abilities, potential in the international market, and previous achievements.

On February 6, the grand final and superfinal will take place in a single live broadcast. The top three participants based on combined viewer and international jury scores will compete in the superfinal. Previous votes will be reset, and the winner will be determined solely by viewers.

Last year’s winner Atvara with the song “Ēnā” will represent Latvia at Eurovision 2026 in Vienna.
