On Sunday morning, the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre (LVĢMC) together with the State Fire and Rescue Service issued a warning for possible thunderstorms in some regions and severe heat in Riga. The warning was in effect from 7:10 AM to 9:00 PM.
Social media posts showed roaring lightning and dark storm clouds. For example, a lightning bolt was captured in Cibla Parish. Weather enthusiast Martins Bergšteins tweeted that Jelgava saw a beautiful thunderstorm in the morning, but by noon when the sun reached its highest point, it was sunny and +26°C.
On the night into Monday, Latvia will have partly cloudy skies. Some central and eastern areas will see brief rain, locally with thunderstorms and heavy downpours. Light winds will cause fog in some areas, reducing visibility. Nighttime temperatures will drop to +13…+18°C. In Riga, the night will be mostly dry, with temperatures falling to +15…+16°C.
Monday will be mostly sunny and dry across Latvia. Light winds will continue, and temperatures will reach +21…+26°C, slightly cooler along the coast. In Riga, there will be few clouds, no precipitation expected, and air temperatures will warm to +24…+26°C.
