Swansea sign Man City forward Monga on loan as Walta set to leave

Swansea City have agreed a season-long loan deal for Manchester City forward Monga, while midfielder Walta appears set to leave the club.

Monga's move

Monga came through Leicester City's academy and made his first-team debut for the Foxes aged just 15 during the 2024-25 season. He went on to make 30 Championship appearances for Leicester last season before agreeing a five-year contract with Manchester City this summer. While at Leicester, Monga became the Championship's youngest ever goal scorer, netting in a 2-1 defeat away to Preston North End in August last year.

After completing his move to City, the club's director of football, Hugo Viana, described the teenager as an exciting talent who had already made significant progress in his young career. Monga, an England Under-19 international, will now spend the rest of this season on loan at Swansea, managed by Vitor Matos.

The move follows Swansea's earlier summer additions of wide players Elijah Just, Moussa Yeo and Joseph Opoku.

Walta departure

Walta first joined Swansea on loan from Swedish club Sirius in February, with the move made permanent by the Welsh club during the summer. This season, the 23-year-old has made just one league appearance, coming off the bench in Swansea's 2-1 opening-day win at Stoke City, and also featured as a substitute in a 1-0 EFL Cup first-round defeat to Birmingham City. Last season, Walta made 10 league appearances for Swansea and scored his only goal for the club in a 3-1 win over Charlton Athletic on the final day of the campaign.
