A New Kind of Fan

SwitchBot, known for its button-pushing robots, has expanded into smart home devices with the Standing Circulator Fan. This battery-powered 3D circulator can tilt up, down, left, and right to move air around a room. It features a DC brushless motor for quiet operation: 50dB at max speed and a whisper-quiet 28dB in Baby mode, measured from one meter away.

Design and Usability

The fan head attaches directly to the battery base to form a desktop fan. Adding one or two vertical segments turns it into a standing fan up to 100cm tall, with assembly taking seconds. It includes an integrated nightlight and a remote control that magnetically attaches to the back. Control is also possible via the app or touch buttons on the base.

Smart Features

The fan works with voice assistants Alexa, Google Assistant, and Siri when paired with a SwitchBot Matter-compatible hub. However, Matter only supports on/off functionality, not settings adjustments, which is still useful for automations and schedules.

Battery Life and Performance

The battery lasted 1 hour 45 minutes with all features maxed out (bright nightlight, high speed, full oscillation). Reducing settings extends battery life significantly: it lasted through the night in Baby mode, and SwitchBot claims over four days with a 10,000mAh USB-C power bank. Airflow is 9.15 cubic meters per minute (about 323 CFM), with wind speeds of 6.1 m/s and a distance of up to 27 meters. This makes it suitable for bedrooms or home offices, but not large living rooms.

Price and Value

The Standing Circulator Fan lists at $129.99 but is often on sale for under $100. Compared to cheaper fans like the $55 Vornado 533, the SwitchBot is quieter and provides a more pleasant 3D airflow pattern, leading to family disputes over who gets to use it.

Verdict

SwitchBot's fan is a versatile, quiet, and portable option with smart home features. While not powerful enough for larger spaces, it excels in smaller rooms and offers excellent battery life for cordless use.
