Thailand's Queen Suthida has flown a fighter jet solo for the first time, the Thai Royal Household, the administrative body serving the monarch, has announced. Footage showed the Queen boarding a Gripen aircraft on 8 October at an airfield in Surat Thani province, in southern Thailand.

King Maha Vajiralongkorn watched the flight from the ground.

An experienced pilot

The Royal Household says Suthida is an experienced pilot. She began flying in 2010 and has logged about 1,188 hours across several types of aircraft.

According to the Household, the Queen has also served as co-pilot on aircraft carrying the King during official visits to other countries.

The source material gives no further details about the length of the flight, its route or its purpose.
