Next week, extensive restoration work will start on the facade of the building at Vabaduse Square 10 in Tallinn, Estonia. The building, constructed in 1936 according to the design of architect Elmar Lohk, will undergo comprehensive restoration aimed at preserving its historical appearance and improving facade safety. The work includes structural inspections, reinforcement of elements, and removal of potentially hazardous sections, the city authorities announced on Friday.

The restoration contract, worth approximately €475,000, will be carried out by Aruna Ehitus OÜ under a city commission. Completion is planned for early 2027.

Due to the large format of the Ukrainian support banner mounted on the facade, it must be temporarily removed to allow restoration work. However, the banner will not be taken out of public view—it will be relocated to the construction scaffolding to remain visible throughout the repair period, said Tiit Terik, Deputy Mayor for City Property (Centre Party). He noted that the decision was coordinated with the initiators of the banner's installation.

Terik earlier told Rus.ERR that, besides visual improvements, the building will become safer: the entire facade will be inspected, dangerous or loose parts will be secured, and all panels will receive additional fixings to ensure stability and prevent collapse. The restoration is expected to enhance the building's durability, energy efficiency, and operational safety.
