Tallink to lease cruise ship Romantika to Italy
Tallink Grupp has agreed to charter out the cruise ship Romantika to the organizing committee of the 2026 Mediterranean Games in Taranto, Italy. The vessel will sail to Italy in August to provide accommodation and catering for participants.
AS Tallink Grupp and the organizing committee of the Taranto 2026 Mediterranean Games have reached an agreement on chartering the cruise ship Romantika. In August, the vessel will head to Italy, where it will provide accommodation and meals for participants of the 20th Mediterranean Games. Under the agreement, Romantika will be chartered together with its technical and service crew.
The ship will make its final voyage in the Baltic Sea on August 4. Passengers who have already bought tickets for later departures will be able to choose an alternative trip to Stockholm aboard the Baltic Queen, Silja Symphony or Silja Serenade. Tallink has directly contacted affected passengers, and most bookings have already been changed.
Romantika was built in Finland in 2002. It was the first ferry ordered by Tallink and also the first ferry built for an Estonian shipowner. Previously, the ship operated Baltic Sea routes to Helsinki, Stockholm and Riga, and last year it was chartered to Algeria.
Three Tallink vessels are currently tied to long-term lease agreements in Europe. The cruise ships Silja Europa and Galaxy are chartered in the Netherlands, where they are used as floating hotels. Superfast IX (now operating under the name St. Patrick) has been leased to the shipping company Hibernia Line for service on the route between Ireland and France.
