Road Repairs in Talsi Area Estimated at Nearly Half a Million Euros
Repairing storm damage to state roads around Talsi will cost approximately €470,000. The restoration of regional road P128 is expected to take four to five months.
After the heavy rainfall that hit the Talsi region on the night of July 21–22, the cost of repairing the damage to state roads has been calculated. In total, nearly €470,000 is needed to fix all issues in the area.
Local gravel roads have already been repaired, including washouts and breaches, at a provisional cost of up to €70,000. The final figure will be determined after all work is completed. However, one local road – Pastende–Iliņi–Spāre (V1385) near Iliņi – remains closed due to flooding.
The most severely damaged regional road, Sloka–Talsi (P128), remains closed because its damage cannot be addressed with routine maintenance. Within the next two weeks, a temporary bypass is planned using culverts from the state material reserves. The work will be carried out by AS "LAU infra", which maintains state roads in the region.
Bridge engineers from the state company Latvijas Valsts ceļi (LVC) assessed the damaged section. They concluded that the existing culvert, built in 1987, is in poor condition and not worth preserving. LVC will launch a price inquiry for a new technical solution this week. The design and construction are expected to take four to five months, meaning the P128 section could be restored by the end of the year. The estimated cost for this section is around €400,000.
Other affected roads include: Liepkalni–Stumbri (V1379) near the Dursupe River, Vēži–Garlene (V1415), and Talsi–Gravas–Ģibuļi (V1404).
