Over 200 vintage cars gather for parade in Tapa, Estonia

The Estonian town of Tapa celebrated its 100th anniversary on Saturday, August 15, with a vintage parade. Crowds gathered on the town's main square, many dressed in 1950s-style outfits to join the festivities.

Event organizer Jevgenia Veiherman said the parade has been held in Tapa for three years running, aimed at drawing visitors from across Estonia to showcase the small town's lively and attractive character.

Classic car showcase

The celebration included a vintage car exhibition open to owners of vehicles more than 40 years old. More than 200 classic cars arrived from across Estonia. The oldest exhibit was a Ford built in the early 20th century, brought over from America by its owner, Jaanus. He said the car remains largely original, including its interior fabric, though the material has begun to deteriorate with age. He fills it up at a regular petrol station and checks the fuel level with a ruler.

Other historic vehicles on display included a 1960s Volga restored by Aleksandr, who fitted it with new doors and fenders and now uses it for family outings with his grandson. Meanwhile, the owners of a rare 1958 Buick, Indrek and Ulvi, said they enjoy touring the country in the car while listening to period music.

The event also featured vintage motorcycles and antique baby carriages brought in by their owners from across Estonia. One participant, Merike, who runs a retro museum, brought along residents of a nursing home so they could join in and enjoy the vintage carriages together.
