On Wednesday, August 5, at 13:13, a security company patrol reported a smell of burning and smoke coming from a technical room in a dormitory on Tiigi Street in Tartu. The patrol immediately notified the emergency centre, and residents of the dormitory evacuated the building.

According to the Lõuna Rescue Centre, the fire originated in the power supply unit of a rectifier located in the technical room. The fire had already gone out on its own by the time rescue teams reached the scene. As a result, the firefighters focused on ventilating the premises to clear the smoke and the lingering smell of burning.

After the ventilation, technical personnel dismantled the damaged component to ensure there was no risk of a new fire. The dormitory building was then inspected, and the situation was brought under control. The emergency response was limited to airing out the rooms and removing the faulty part, allowing residents to return to their accommodations.
