The Tartu city government has approved a detailed spatial plan for a plot of land in the Ihaste district, where a kindergarten and primary school are planned to be built in the future. The site is located at Pallase puiestee 114.

The approved plan allows for the construction of up to five buildings on the site — one main building and four auxiliary structures — covering a total area of up to 3,600 square metres.

According to the Tartu city government, the exact timeline for construction and the eventual size of the kindergarten will become clear once a demographic forecast for the area has been drawn up.

Tartu deputy mayor Kertu Vuks said that approving the detailed plan gives the city the ability to respond to the district's future need for kindergarten and school places, and to begin looking for financing solutions to build the new educational institution. She added that cooperation with the private sector has not been ruled out.

The project forms part of Tartu's longer-term planning to ensure adequate educational infrastructure in the city's faster-growing districts.
