Diversity of Folk Motifs in Latvian Porcelain – Exhibition at Riga Porcelain Museum
From June 12 to early August, the Riga Porcelain Museum hosts the exhibition “Patterns Embroidered in Writing,” showcasing the evolution of folk motifs in Latvian porcelain from the second half of the 20th century to the present day.

The Riga Porcelain Museum is presenting an exhibition titled “Patterns Embroidered in Writing” from June 12 to early August, dedicated to the diversity of folk motifs in Latvian porcelain art. The display features porcelain items created from the second half of the last century up to modern times, illustrating how the interpretation of folk elements has changed over time.
Folk motifs have always been relevant in Latvian porcelain art, but their expressions and interpretations have varied significantly across different periods. The exhibition traces these trends, from sun symbols to the national awakening era’s “auseklītis” (a star-shaped motif). Visitors can explore a wide range of porcelain works that reflect both traditional and contemporary uses of folk patterns.
