Latvia's Minister for Smart Administration and Regional Development, Edgars Tavars of the Union of Greens and Farmers coalition partner Apvienotais saraksts, has revised decisions made by his predecessor regarding the territorial plans of two municipalities. The information was confirmed to the LETA news agency by representatives of the Ministry for Smart Administration and Regional Development (VARAM).

The changes followed discussions between the minister and the respective municipal governments. In the case of Preiļi municipality, Tavars fully canceled the earlier ministerial order that had suspended the operation of the local territorial plan.

Different approach for Bauska

Regarding Bauska municipality, the minister took a more measured approach, reversing the previous decision only partially rather than in full. This means that some restrictions previously imposed on Bauska's territorial plan remain in force, while others no longer apply.

VARAM has not disclosed detailed reasoning behind the differing treatment of the two cases, but indicated that the decisions were made following dialogue with the municipalities involved.

Territorial plans define the conditions for future land use and development within a municipality, including permitted land uses and construction regulations. Ministerial intervention to suspend or reinstate such plans can directly affect a municipality's ability to carry out its planned development projects.
