Edgars Tavars, the Minister of Smart Administration and Regional Development and a leader of the United List party, has stated that merging several ministries into a single Ministry of Economy is not feasible at the moment without causing serious disruptions. While he generally supports the idea, he believes the current priorities and workload make it untimely.

Tavars argues that a properly formed economy ministry should include not only the Ministry of Climate and Energy (KEM), the Ministry of Smart Administration and Regional Development (VARAM), and the Ministry of Economics (EM), but also parts of the Ministry of Agriculture responsible for forestry and timber exports, as well as military industry matters.

According to the minister, the most realistic step now would be to dissolve KEM and split its functions back between EM and VARAM. Only after that could discussions about further restructuring take place. He added that optimization ideas exist in other areas, including health and welfare ministries.

Earlier, the National Alliance urged the coalition to decide before the Saeima elections on merging KEM, VARAM, and EM into one Ministry of Economy. Representatives of other parties have noted that the idea is debatable but requires a comprehensive review of the entire state administration model.
