Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce got married at Madison Square Garden in New York City over the Fourth of July weekend. Photos have not yet been released, but Dior has confirmed that Jonathan Anderson, the brand's creative director, designed the bride's haute couture wedding look. This marks the first time Anderson, who joined Dior last year, has created a wedding gown for a bride.

The choice of a French fashion house came as a surprise, as many expected America's pop sweetheart to choose an American designer. Swift and Kelce had worn Ralph Lauren for their engagement announcement last year. The wedding looks were crafted in close collaboration with the couple and hand-made at Dior's ateliers in Paris. Their custom shoes are by Christian Louboutin, and Swift's jewelry is by Cartier – both also French.

The Dior dress is an unexpectedly high-fashion choice for Swift, whose stardom is built on her relatable, girl-next-door persona. She rarely attends fashion shows. Jonathan Anderson is known for his avant-garde designs, while Swift is the ultimate girl-next-door. However, in the months leading up to the wedding, she was frequently seen carrying Dior handbags.

The announcement notably gave equal spotlight to both Swift and Kelce's wedding looks, rather than focusing solely on the bride. Kelce, who recently announced a collaboration with Tommy Hilfiger, is as interested in fashion as Swift.

Dressing what is considered America's royal wedding is a major coup for Dior. Chanel recently appointed Matthieu Blazy as its new designer, locking the two houses into a heated rivalry. Chanel scored a win by dressing Dua Lipa for her wedding last month, but Swift's Dior dress overshadows that in terms of media coverage. Next week, both houses will present their new collections within 24 hours of each other at Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week.
