Tele2: mobile internet use abroad up 20% this summer
Tele2 data show that mobile data use abroad this summer has increased by 20% compared with the previous summer, with Germany and Lithuania seeing the highest consumption.
Data collected by telecommunications company Tele2 show that mobile internet use abroad grew by 20% in this year's summer months compared with the same period last year. Both this summer and last summer, the largest amount of mobile data was consumed in Germany and Lithuania, according to the company.
Tele2 commercial director Raimonds Janševskis said the roaming data indicate that customers most often travel to Germany, Lithuania, Sweden, Poland and the Netherlands. He noted that mobile internet has become an integral part of everyday life and travel, and that the overall data consumption is also driven by the annual increase in the data allowance available to customers in European Union member states, which directly affects internet usage habits.
The company pointed out that at the beginning of this year, the data allowance available in EU and EEA countries grew by roughly one-fifth, depending on the chosen tariff plan and monthly fee. Under the EU Roaming Regulation, the data allowance for EU and EEA countries is increased every year.
