The Tesla Semi electric truck will make its second appearance at the IAA Transportation trade show in Hanover, Germany, this September, according to several German online media outlets. Two years ago, the truck brought over from the US drew significant visitor interest, but Tesla stayed silent on its European market intentions at the time. This year, the company has promised to share information about its plans and specifications for Europe.

Production already underway in the US

According to the source, Tesla has already begun series production of the Semi at a factory located near its Gigafactory in Nevada. The plant is designed for a capacity of up to 50,000 trucks per year, though output is expected to be scaled up gradually rather than reaching full capacity immediately.

Two versions and fast charging

The US-market model will be offered in two versions — Standard Range, with a range of about 523 kilometers, and Long Range, with a range of about 800 kilometers. Both versions feature three electric motors with a combined output of up to 800 kilowatts, while battery capacity is either 548 or 822 kilowatt-hours depending on the version.

One of the Semi's key advantages is megawatt charging capability of up to 1.2 megawatts, which allows most of the 800-kilometer range to be restored in around 30 minutes.

Interest from major clients

Several notable companies have shown interest in the Tesla Semi, including Amazon. Logistics company Einride announced this week that it will gradually receive 500 Tesla Semi trucks for its electric truck fleet.
