Tesla says second-generation Roadster will finally be unveiled October 1
Tesla has announced that its long-delayed second-generation Roadster will be unveiled on October 1. The car, first announced in 2017, reportedly received a completely new design.
Tesla posted a brief message on X on Saturday reading "Go for launch," accompanied by a graphic displaying the date "10.01," signaling that the unveiling of the second-generation Roadster is planned for October 1.
The graphic also appears to reference cold gas thrusters developed by SpaceX, the other company led by Elon Musk. These optional thrusters are said to allow the Roadster to "fly" in some capacity.
Years of delays
Tesla's second-generation sports car was first announced back in November 2017 and has since been pushed back repeatedly. Last year, the project became the subject of a public spat on social media between Musk and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, who noted that waiting 7.5 years felt like a long time after paying a $50,000 reservation deposit, while Musk maintained that Altman had received a refund.
The Information recently reported that the original 2017 design had been entirely scrapped in favor of a new, unrevealed design set to be shown soon.
Musk has previously acknowledged that even after the unveiling, the Roadster won't enter production for another 12 to 18 months.
