After testing more than 40 routers, Wired highlights the top Wi-Fi 7 models for various needs, from home networks to travel.

Wired has published a comprehensive test of Wi-Fi routers, evaluating over 40 models. The best 5G router is the Netgear Nighthawk M7, which supports Wi-Fi 7, a SIM card, and eSIM plans in 140 countries, featuring a 2.4-inch color screen. Its battery lasts up to 10 hours (tested 9 hours), connects up to 32 devices, and covers 2,000 square feet. It has only a USB-C port and no mmWave support, but works with most carriers.
The best Wi-Fi 7 router is the Asus RT-BE96U at $550, tri-band (6 GHz, 5 GHz, 2.4 GHz) covering 5,400 square feet. A more affordable Wi-Fi 7 option is the TP-Link Archer BE9700 ($250) with 2,600 square feet coverage. For large homes, the Netgear Orbi 770 Series (2-pack) at $550 covers 5,500 square feet.
On a budget, the Asus RT-BE58U ($150) is a dual-band Wi-Fi 7 router with 2,000 square feet coverage. For gamers, the Asus ROG Rapture GT-BE98 Pro ($629) offers tri-band performance. For travel, the Asus RT-BE58 Go ($160) covers 1,800 square feet.
