Quiz checks whether your CV's computer skills claims hold up
A new 10-question quiz lets people test for themselves whether the computer skills listed on their CV actually match reality.
Many job seekers write on their CV that they are a "confident user of MS Office and other basic computer programs", but few actually consider what would happen if an employer suddenly asked them to prove it on the spot — for instance, by turning the computer screen toward the candidate during an interview.
To help people check for themselves how honest such claims really are, a short quiz with 10 questions has been put together. Its aim is to reveal whether a reader genuinely understands basic computer functions, or whether the skills listed on their CV were somewhat exaggerated.
An example question
As an illustration, the quiz's first question asks, with a simple yes-or-no answer, whether it is possible to have more than one program open on a computer at the same time. Although it looks elementary, the question actually shows how well a person navigates everyday computer use — a skill that is often taken for granted in today's job market, yet rarely actually tested during hiring.
The quiz's creators note that similar questions could, in principle, come up during a real job interview, so before sending a CV to a potential employer, it might be worth double-checking that the listed computer skills genuinely reflect reality.
