The Hundred cricket competition will this weekend hand out a brand-new trophy — the fan-named Helix trophy — for the first time. It goes to the team with the highest combined points total across both the men's and women's tournaments, which have run alongside each other since 2021.
Trent Rockets have already guaranteed themselves the 2026 Helix trophy by qualifying automatically for both the men's and women's finals. The club sits on 60 points, 16 clear of second-placed Sunrisers Leeds. Both finals take place on 16 August at Lord's, with live coverage on BBC.
How it would work elsewhere
BBC Sport looked at how a similar combined ranking might play out in other sports. In football, merging the 2025-26 Premier League and Women's Super League tables would put Arsenal on top, three points ahead of Manchester City, despite City winning the WSL itself. Chelsea, despite finishing tenth in the Premier League, would rank fourth overall, while West Ham would finish bottom among clubs competing in both competitions.
In rugby, a combined Six Nations table would be topped by France, who lost only two matches across both the men's and women's competitions. England, unbeaten in the women's tournament, would finish second due to just one win in the men's competition. Wales would finish last, having finished bottom of the table in both tournaments.
In golf, combining results from the 2025 Ryder Cup and 2024 Solheim Cup would see the United States edge out Europe, as the US Solheim Cup win outweighed Europe's narrower Ryder Cup victory.
