"The Sound Poets" close out summer with open-air concert at Mežaparks

As summer drew to a close, the band "The Sound Poets" performed at the Mežaparks Green Theatre on August 29. A soft rain fell throughout the evening, but rather than disrupting the show, it deepened the melancholic, romantic atmosphere that matched the music being played.
The outdoor concert had been announced alongside the release of the band's new album, "Katram kuģim savs ceļš" ("Every Ship Has Its Own Course"). The setlist featured tracks from the new record as well as popular songs from the group's earlier albums.
Guests joined on stage
The new album was created together with Estonian musician and producer Erki Pärnoja, known to Latvian audiences as a member of the band "Ewert and the Two Dragons." Pärnoja appeared on stage himself as one of the evening's special guests.
The performance was further enriched by the Ikšķile Saule choir. The pairing was not incidental — "The Sound Poets" frontman Jānis Aišpurs had previously teamed up with the same choir on the TV3 show "Koru kari" ("Choir Wars").
Opening the evening was the new indie band "Idille," which released its self-titled debut album earlier this year.
