Threads testing automatic podcast transcription feature
Meta's Threads platform is testing a feature that automatically transcribes audio clips into text, letting users follow podcast content even with sound off. It's part of a broader push to attract podcast creators to the platform.
Threads head Connor Hayes announced that the platform is testing several new features aimed at promoting podcast content. One of them is a tool that automatically generates transcriptions of audio clips, converting spoken content into written text.
Such a feature would let people scrolling their feed without sound still follow along with podcast content by reading its text version. Hayes noted that the transcription tool is just one of several podcast-sharing instruments the company is currently working on.
No guarantee of full rollout
The company has not confirmed that every feature being tested will receive an official release. Still, expanding support for content creators appears to be a priority for the platform. Podcasters in particular have recently become a key audience for the social network.
Back in November, Threads — a platform primarily focused on text — introduced several promotional tools specifically designed for the audiovisual format.
Platform continues to grow
Threads reached a significant milestone in June, surpassing 500 million monthly active users. Given this growth, it likely makes sense for the company to offer increasingly specialized tools for different content formats, including podcasts.
