On November 17 at 2 p.m., Riga City Court will begin hearing a criminal case against a man accused of illegally acquiring and storing psychotropic substances with intent to sell them. According to information available in the court calendar, the defendant is Ivans Pavlovs.

According to information provided by the prosecutor's office to the LETA agency, the man had at an undetermined time acquired more than 12 kilograms of MDMA pills, widely known as "ecstasy," along with 540 grams of amphetamine.

Substances found in several locations

The man kept part of the psychotropic substances at his own place, where State Police discovered and seized them during a search. The larger portion of the substances was found elsewhere — at a property and in a car used by the defendant.

At the same property, police also found 161,866 euros in cash. Prosecutors will ask the court to declare these funds as criminally obtained. Both the cash and the man's car have already been placed under seizure.

According to the report, the defendant had previously been held liable in connection with the illegal distribution of narcotic substances.

MDMA belongs to the phenethylamine and amphetamine class of psychoactive substances and is typically distributed on the market in pill form under the name "ecstasy."
