Court Sentences Ex-Berkut Commander to 10 Years for Euromaidan Crimes
A Kyiv court on July 13, 2026, found former Berkut commander Serhiy Kusiuk, three ex-law enforcement officers, and two titushky guilty for violence against protesters in January 2014, sentencing them to 7 to 10 years in prison.
The Obolonskyi District Court of Kyiv on July 13, 2026, delivered a verdict in the case of the January 2014 events on Hrushevskoho Street. Former commander of the Kyiv special police regiment "Berkut", Serhiy Kusiuk, received a 10-year prison sentence. Three former law enforcement officers, including Kusiuk's subordinates and a department head, were sentenced to 8 years. Two coordinators and organizers of the "titushky" were given 7 years. All convicts were stripped of their special ranks and barred from holding positions in law enforcement.
The court established that on January 23, 2014, in the area of Hrushevskoho and then Shchorsa streets, police officers acting together with titushky illegally detained 22 participants of the Revolution of Dignity. They used physical force and special means, causing bodily harm and property damage. Subsequently, based on falsified reports and false testimony, these individuals were unjustly charged with participating in mass riots.
The pre-trial investigation was conducted by the State Bureau of Investigation. This is the second conviction for Kusiuk for crimes committed during the Euromaidan. In December 2025, the Podilskyi District Court of Kyiv also found him guilty of illegal detention and violence against protesters on January 20, 2014, on Lavrska Street.
