Latvian national basketball team point guard Toms Skuja has decided to return to Latvia this summer and will play for Rīgas Zeļļi in the upcoming season. He rejoins the club after spending half a season in Germany.

In an interview, Skuja said he feels good about returning to the team and expressed satisfaction that the club will compete in the Europe Cup this season. He noted that the roster and the team's ambitions are high, and he hopes fans will attend home games if the team performs well.

Previous spell with Zeļļi

Before his move to Germany, Skuja spent two and a half seasons as one of Zeļļi's key players. During that time he played 93 official matches, scored 1,030 points — a tally shared as the best in club history — and recorded 481 assists, an outright club record.

Season in Germany and injury

Skuja described mixed feelings about his time in Germany, as injuries prevented him from playing regularly. He said that when healthy he performed well, but frequent interruptions repeatedly threw off his rhythm. Still, he stressed he does not regret the experience in Germany at all and considers himself a winner overall, since he now looks forward to Europe Cup play with Zeļļi.

Skuja is still recovering from an injury sustained this summer and cannot yet confirm whether he will be ready for the Latvian basketball league season opener on September 25 against Keila Coolbet. He said his condition is improving and he hopes to resume full training and playing within a week or two.

The guard also spoke positively about the team's internal atmosphere, saying the group is friendly with no negativity among teammates. He added that the team currently looks strong on the court, and this season's main goal will be to win as many games as possible.
