Toms Skuja returns to Rīgas Zeļļi after half a season in Germany
Latvian national team point guard Toms Skuja has signed a one-year contract with Rīgas Zeļļi, returning to the club after spending half a season in the German Bundesliga.
The basketball club Rīgas Zeļļi has announced the signing of a one-year contract with Latvian national team guard Toms Skuja. The 24-year-old, 190 cm tall point guard returns to Riga after half a season with the German Bundesliga club MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg.
Skuja previously played for Rīgas Zeļļi from 2023 to 2025, appearing in 93 official games. He scored 1,030 points, sharing the best record in club history, and recorded 481 assists – an absolute club record. With the team, he won three silver medals: in the Latvian-Estonian League, Latvian Basketball League, and Latvian Cup, as well as a bronze in LBL and the Baltic Super Cup.
In November 2024, Skuja made his debut for the Latvian national team, for which he has already played 11 games. In October 2025, his contract was bought out by the German Bundesliga club, where he gained valuable experience.
Club president Edgars Buļs expressed joy over the return, emphasizing that Skuja has become a club legend and a stable asset for the national team. Head coach Rokas Kondratavičius noted that Skuja is one of the most promising Latvian point guards and his return is important for the club. The player himself said he feels welcome and considers the club his second home. In a historic season, Rīgas Zeļļi will debut in the EuroCup, facing opponents such as Le Mans, Hapoel Jerusalem, San Pablo Burgos, Cedevita Olimpija, Derthona Tortona, Aris, and Rostock Seawolves in Group A. The first EuroCup match will be played on September 29 or 30 at Xiaomi Arena against Italian club Derthona Tortona.
