Toro: Some Voters Could Repeat the Mistake of the Last Election
Arigo Toro, a candidate for the 15th Saeima formerly known as Aldis Gobzems, told the portal nra.lv that voters may repeat a past mistake. He believes some voters are ready to back the current policy course.
Lawyer and politician Arigo Toro, previously widely known as Aldis Gobzems and now a candidate for the 15th Saeima, Latvia's parliament, on the "Gobzems list", has spoken about voter choices on the programme "nra.lv sarunas". In a conversation with journalist Kristīne Kravcova, he suggested that the public could repeat a mistake made in the previous parliamentary elections.
Leaving Latvia
Four years ago Toro left Latvia, claiming at the time that voters had betrayed him. In the programme he was asked whether Latvian voters had changed since then.
Voters' mistakes
Toro replied that, to be honest, voters had also made mistakes. He noted that in the previous elections people voted for Krišjānis Kariņš. The politician asked rhetorically where Kariņš is now with his private plane flights, and where Evika Siliņa and the policy of the "Vienotība" (Unity) party are. In Toro's view, everyone sees and knows this clearly. He said he cannot be sure whether voters will repeat the error in these elections, but he allows that such a possibility exists.
He also expressed the belief that some voters are ready to vote for the existing policy and to behave much like a cancer patient. What the politician means by this comparison can be seen in the full conversation in the portal's video.
