Beaver Statue Honoring US Smashed in Toronto
One of dozens of beaver statues in a World Cup public art installation in Toronto was destroyed – the one painted with a stars-and-stripes design honoring the United States.

A public art installation in Toronto, created for the 2026 World Cup, has been vandalized. The installation featured dozens of statues of Canada's national animal, the beaver, placed around the city. One of these statues was completely destroyed. The damaged statue was distinctive: it was painted with the stars and stripes pattern of the United States flag, meant to honor the U.S. as a participating nation in the tournament. The motive for the destruction remains unclear, and the other statues in the installation were left untouched.
