Spurs agree deal worth up to £100m for Newcastle's Tonali
Tottenham Hotspur have agreed a deal worth up to £100m for Newcastle's Sandro Tonali, part of an aggressive summer spending spree that could reach £237m. Newcastle, meanwhile, have sold key players and only signed a young goalkeeper.

Tottenham Hotspur have reached an agreement to sign midfielder Sandro Tonali from Newcastle United in a deal that could rise to £100m. The move is part of an aggressive summer transfer window for Spurs, who have already secured defenders Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi on free transfers. The club could spend a combined £237m on centre-back Jan Paul van Hecke, midfielder Fernandes, and Tonali.
Manager Roberto De Zerbi, after his side secured Premier League survival with a 1-0 win over Everton on the final day, stated his target is to start pre-season with his dream squad. Despite finishing 17th in two consecutive seasons, Tottenham benefits from strong off-field revenues.
Newcastle, in contrast, have had to sell to reinvest. The departures of Alexander Isak, Anthony Gordon, and now Tonali within a year have weakened the squad. So far, the club has only signed 20-year-old goalkeeper Ewen Jaouen, who has never played top-flight football. Newcastle also missed out on forward Victor Munoz, who joined Liverpool. With pre-season approaching, the club has limited room for error.
