TP-Link unveils its first Wi-Fi 8 hardware ahead of finalized standard
TP-Link introduced the Archer 8 Ultra router and Deco 8 Ultra mesh system at IFA 2026, built around the still-unfinished Wi-Fi 8 standard. The company says the focus is on fixing everyday connectivity issues rather than chasing raw speed.

TP-Link has revealed its first products designed for the upcoming Wi-Fi 8 standard (IEEE 802.11bn) at the IFA 2026 trade show, even though the specification itself has not yet been finalized. The company says these devices aim to solve real-world connectivity problems that users actually notice, rather than simply pushing top speeds higher.
Archer 8 Ultra and Deco 8 Ultra
The Archer 8 Ultra is a tri-band router with 18 internal antennas, capable of wireless speeds up to 19Gbps and wired speeds up to 10Gbps. The Deco 8 Ultra mesh system can reach up to 22Gbps over wireless and 10Gbps over a wired connection. According to TP-Link, a three-unit Deco 8 Ultra set can cover up to 9,800 square feet and support more than 200 connected devices simultaneously.
Availability and pricing
TP-Link has not announced pricing for either product. Preorders for the Archer 8 Ultra will open in select regions starting September 30th, while the Deco 8 Ultra is expected to become available sometime in the first quarter of 2027. Additional Wi-Fi 8 hardware, including range extenders, adapters, and the Roam 8 travel router, is planned to follow in the second quarter of 2027.
Context
The Wi-Fi 7 standard was only finalized in January 2024, meaning many consumers have yet to upgrade before Wi-Fi 8 products start arriving. Wi-Fi 8 itself is not expected to receive official certification until May 2028. Observers note that TP-Link appears eager to get ahead of competitors and ease concerns about how a US ban on foreign-made routers might affect its next-generation lineup — while the new devices rely on Broadcom, Qualcomm, and MediaTek chipsets, TP-Link emphasizes that US-led hardware and software engineering went into their development.
