Two passengers died when a BMW crashed into a lamp post and caught fire in Vilnius early Saturday. The 17-year-old female driver was found to have alcohol in her system and had only had her license for less than a month.

A serious traffic accident occurred in Vilnius on Saturday, July 4, around 4:20 a.m. A BMW 530 driven by a 17-year-old female lost control and struck a lamppost. The impact was so strong that the pole was knocked down. The vehicle then caught fire, and by the time rescuers arrived, it was fully engulfed in flames.
Two passengers died in the crash: a girl born in 2007 and a boy born in 2005. The driver survived. Police found that she had a blood alcohol level of 0.58 per mille. Additionally, it was revealed that she had obtained her driver's license less than a month before the accident.
A pre-trial investigation has been launched for violation of traffic safety rules. Reviewing city surveillance camera footage, police suspect that the vehicles may have been involved in illegal street racing before the fatal crash. The investigation is ongoing to determine the exact circumstances.
